Masking Tape and Pigment

My admiration for masking tape and coloured pigment has increased since the trial of saving the tape after creating the grid paintings this year. I have remained captivated towards the simplicity and pure element of tape and paint as a creative and aestheticaly impactful visual outcome. The possibilities are endless and the prducton is effortless but extremly ambitious. The extract of leftover pigmnt being swept over the tape dries, to create a slight smudge and block of paint over the tape that carries on the trace of the mark from the grid. The tape in its prim existence on the wall is extremly pleasing to look at and the aesthetic experience becomes a simple and exciting insight into the ambitious possibilty of Abstract ideas. My intention focused on using tape for its uncommon use in art- rather than being the art itself it is often the tool used as a adhesive or ‘first aid’ tool in joining, sticking etc work but here the use and function has been avoided and the tape presented for its potential.

So you still think tape is rubbish!
